artist statement

My work expresses duality; first as a human being on earth connected to others and the greater universe through a collective consciousness and, second as a multicultural woman living in American and navigating between the natural and built worlds. Mixed media elements representing the earth, sky, cosmos, plants, and architectural elements combine to depict this reality.

My art focuses on the interconnectedness of energy, flowing through all living beings, our earth, nature, and the larger cosmos.  Recognition and respect of this interconnectedness is seen through use of universal symbols such as particles, circles, waves and ancient marks, used in my artwork to evoke an elemental sense of beauty, harmony and wonder.

I use my art to guide people into awareness of their interconnectedness with others, the earth and the cosmos by reaching out to one’s innate ability for empathy, compassion and introspection, to make the world a healthier, more beautiful, and better place on which to live.

It’s about “Balance and Connection”, maintaining the connection to the material world while reaching out to maintain connection with the greater universe.

I am greatly influenced by my practice of yoga, Korean Qigong and study of the Tao.  As well as the teaching of masters such as:

Leonardo da Vinci “realize that everything connects to everything else”

Albert Einstein “a human being is a part of the whole called by us ‘the universe’

Lao-tzu “the sage never strives… for the great, and thereby the great is achieved”
